The science of Astronomy is interesting and varied. There are a lot of resources for it for kids who are interested in the planets, the solar system, the universe and everything else that’s part of this exciting science. For children, many parts of it are magical and thus they are drawn towards the moon, the stars and far distant galaxies.

The moon is Earth’s only satellite. It takes about 27 days to orbit the Earth. Being so near, it has hosted the only human footsteps on a space object other than the Earth. Gravity between the moon and Earth causes the tides. It’s brightness in the night sky attracts many children to learn more about it.

Then there’s our sun. Earth is quite far from the sun. The distance fluctuates between about 91 million miles and about 94 million miles. That’s because Earth’s orbit around the sun isn’t a circle, it’s an ellipse. If there were no sun, we wouldn’t be alive. Our light and heat comes from the sun. Over 98% of the total stuff in our solar system is in the sun. Think about how small a person is compared to that.

We live in the Milky Way Galaxy. It’s full of space stuff. Even with all this stuff to fill it, it’s mostly empty. At over 100,000 light years wide and 3,000 light years high, that means the galaxy contains a whole lot of nothing. The center of our galaxy is about 30,000 light years from Earth. Even with all that space there are about 100 billion stars in the Milky Way. In fact the galaxy was named for the thick group of stars in the main portion of it. People thought it looked like a stream of milk, so called it the Milky Way. There are four types of galaxies – elliptical, lenticular, irregular and like the Milky Way, spiral.

There is a lot of information about astronomy for kids on the Internet. Kids could spend hours wrapped in detailed 3D representations of the universe around us.

Actors, Horoscopes and Roles

How often does an actor play a role that matches their horoscope? Is it possible that the best roles for them to play are best detected by a careful examination of their horoscope?

The acting career of Arnold Schwarzenegger provides a good example for testing this proposition. Many of the roles he played were extreme, unusual, high-tech; in fact his most memorable were classics of the science-fiction genre. Nearly all involved physical power and toughness. Cut your hair at the full moon, say these professional hair stylists. Is it a creative marketing practice or belief in the folklore of the moon phases? Ask your hairdresser at your own risk. Like any other group of people, many are fully trained in modern practice that does not include anything as un-technological as the moon phases. A few years ago in Rome, Vittorio Giunta, fought to keep his hair salon open during the evening of the full moon. He wanted to uphold his belief that the full moon is the best time to cut hair. Unfortunately, his shop hours created a conflict with city government and other shop owners who adhere to the traditional daytime schedule.

Jeanne Valere reports in the book titled Unusual Shopping in Paris that French hairdresser Djelani Maachi also keeps his shop open during the night of the full moon. He claims that the hair will grow back faster when cut on the night of the full moon. This makes sense in relation to the growth of above-ground plant parts that occur during the time of maximum pressure exerted at the full moon.

New York has numerous salons that cater to full moon enthusiasts in the City that never sleeps, this makes perfect sense, whether it is a fancy about the full moon or simply good business sense. Free hair cuts are available if you are in Alvin, Texas, just south of Houston and it is a full moon. Stop in at Gertzen Hair World on West Willis. The owner, Kair W. Gertzen, offers free hair cuts between 8 p.m. and midnight along with refreshments and music.

Quantum Physics World Peace

Today with the world seemingly at war the cry for World Peace is heard loud and clear.

But before we can attain World Peace we must first understand what peace is. Peace is an energy. It is not a word nor a concept, idea or ideology.

It is an energy. Therefore the bottom line for World Peace is that the energy called Peace must pervade our physical reality. It must inundate the planet Earth.

The only way that the energy called “Peace” can be brought to the planet Earth is through Man. Individual man. Man is a step down transformer between the Mind of God and the world.

Man is the only entity on the physical plane that has the ability to attract the energy of “Peace” and radiate it out to every other man/woman, animal, plant and mineral.

Where does man go to find the energy called “Peace.”

In the Mind of God, the Quantum Ocean. Now that we have entered the Age of Aquarius, we have been given a new paradigm to live by.

This paradigm is the Laws of Quantum Physics. These Laws simply tell us that there exists an infinite ocean of thinking, intelligent energy called the Quantum Ocean. Every thing that ever was, is or will be exists there. There is no time there, no past, present nor future. Only the Now.

There is no space there. No height, width nor length. Only the HERE.

This Quantum Ocean, Mind of God that you and I exist in is a timeless, space-less infinite point where everything else also exists.

What a marvelous definition for God. We live, move and have our existence in the Mind of God. The energy “Peace” also exists in the Quantum Oceanl Mind of God.

The reason there is no peace on the planet is because there are not enough people who have the energy of peace within them. Not enough people radiating the energy of peace into the world to off set the people who are not at peace with themselves and this is causing all the wars.

There is no way that we can force the billions of warring people to understand that they themselves are causing the wars.

But we can help at least 5% of the people on the planet to attract the peace energy out of the Mind of God and radiate it out to all others. That is all it will take to turn wars off and peace on. 5 %. Those of us who are conscious enough to understand this can start this turn around.

How? By understanding that we live in the Mind of God and with our thoughts we can both attract energies out of the Quantum Ocean and radiate them out.

To start; sit comfortably in your favorite chair. Relax, breath slowly and deeply.

Now visualize that your are surrounded by an ocean of thinking intelligent energy.

Take a deep breath and mentally say to yourself, “I am now breathing in the energy of peace into my Aura and every cell of my body. I AM PEACE.”

Now start to radiate it outward from your heart center. See your family as a concentric circle surrounding you. Send everyone in the circle the energy of peace.

Next see another concentric circle filled with your friends and acquaintances. Send them the energy of Peace.

Next a concentric circle of everyone in the town or city where you live. Send them the energy of Peace.

Next your state. Then your country. Then the whole world. See the huge concentric circle of humanity that surrounds you. Send everyone in it the energy of Peace.

These energies of Peace will find their way into enough receptive hearts in the world to turn war into Peace.

Before the world can experience Peace at least 5% of humanity must be radiating Peace. They must be Peace itself!

Columbia

- named after a U.S. Navy frigate that sailed around the world in 1836 and secondly also after the command module for the first moon landing. The Eagle was the name of the Lunar Lander. Columbia would be the second orbiter to end its life in disaster as it was torn to pieces during the re-entry after a successful mission.
 
Challenger

- named after another U.S. frigate that explored the Atlantic and Pacific oceans in 1870
 
Discovery

 Two ships with the same name was the inspiration behind this name. The ship with which Henry Hudson explored Hudson Bay and that of James Cooks voyage to the Hawaiian Islands in 1776
 
Atlantis

- named after an American two-masted ketch that sailed 800 000 kilometers, carrying out oceanographic research between 1930 and 1936
 
Endeavour

- the last of the orbiters to receive a name of a famous sailing ship. This was the name of the ship Captain James Cook used on his first voyage to the South when he charted New Zealand and the eastern coastline of Australia.

So we have drawn or chosen our card and allowed it, as best we can, to speak to us.

But what if I get a card that we are not happy with – one that produces a decidedly negative reaction?

A negative reaction to a card is an indication that the image is activating some repressed part of yourself, or is a call to look at a particular problem. The more reluctance you feel to working with the card, the more important it is to continue!

Since we discovered how to make satellites, our search for other things excluding stars, have expanded. First we could only see stars, and then galaxies. Then we began to see new planets circling other stars. First only very big planets, before we also picked up smaller planets. Now a new planet was discovered and it is great news again. So what is the difference and why is this so special?

Okay, not everybody will be so excited, but Astronomers are and in short I’ll explain why. Keeping in mind that in our Solar System, that is the Sun and everything around it, we don’t really expect to find any new planets. Smaller rocks, but not big enough to be called a planet. That is why we began the hunt for planets circling other stars. The problem is the distance and the fact that you now look into the glare of a star. It means we can’t actually see a planet. We know it is there because it has an effect on the light we receive from the star. The composition changes when a planet moves in front of it. In short, only because it showed its footprint do we know it is there.

That was until now. After years of research the first visible-light snapshot of a planet outside our Solar System was taken. A University of California, Berkeley, astronomer, Paul Kalas finally found what he looked for. Only 25 light-years from Earth, a planet around the size of Jupiter – orbits the star Fomalhaut at a distance about four times that between Neptune and the Sun. Formally known as Fomalhaut b, the planet could have a ring system about the dimension of Jupiter’s early rings, before the dust and debris coalesced into the four Galilean moons. ( These four moons can be seen with a normal binocular if you know where to find the planet Jupiter.)

November begins with a passionate Scorpio flare, and many of us will find ourselves dealing with conflicts and anxiety early in the month. But, we should find that the blessings and opportunities return around mid month, and the whole week of Thanksgiving should be great for travel and family.

This month begins with Neptune at direct station and daylight savings time ending. The days before the elections on November 4th could be rather difficult. There could be some sudden relationship breakups and abuse in relationships. There could also be major money difficulties, so be prepared for extra expenses. Mars will be fighting with Neptune while Neptune is trying to change directions, and that could bring substance abuse and more fights. Saturn and Uranus, two outer planets, will also be at an opposition, and that could lead to accidents, frustration, and defiance.

By Wednesday, November 5th, we should be beginning to recover, and we may find ourselves dealing with some fallout from all the turmoil and arguments. But, as the weekend approaches, life should return to normal.

In fact, life should be feeling really grand by Sunday, November 9th. Our optimism will be very strong, and new opportunities will be knocking on our doors. We are going to get just about anything we want throughout the week, if we are willing to put out a little effort. We may hit a few rough spots on the 12th and the 13th, but we should find it fairly easy to accomplish our goals all the way through Sunday, November 16th.

We may hit a few problems with addictions and stupid words on Monday, November 17th, but the rest of the week should be fairly smooth. We should find it easy to keep our faith and inspirations awake and in focus all the way through Tuesday, November 25th.

There may be some misunderstandings and emotional transitions to deal with in the days approaching Thanksgiving. And, there could be a change in plans on Thanksgiving day as Uranus changes directions, so try to stay flexible. Thanksgiving weekend, November 28th – 30th, should bring some new energy and ideas our way. There is also a potential for romance, and family love. Life should be happy and peaceful as we end the month.

There could be some major conflicts and upsets to deal with the first half of December, so get most of your shopping done this month, if you can. Things should calm down by the Solstice, and it looks like we have some very pleasant holidays ahead. Check back next month to find out more.

Exploring your Past lives

If you want to explore you’re past lives you’ll need to learn a few balancing techniques. “The world’s a stage and we each must play a part” is a phrase most people are familiar with so let’s use this as a starting point on the road to exploring you’re past life.

Step One – Imagine yourself in the audience of a theatre awaiting the start of a play. Try to set this scene as accurately as you can, maybe remembering the last time you were at the theatre (or the movies for that matter). Feel the atmosphere of the people around you, the people eating popcorn, munching on chips and so on. Imagine the lights dimming and the stage being lit, the orchestra playing, or the movie about to begin. Do nothing else at this point just picture with all your imagination yourself in a theatre. This might take a few attempts, just remember, very few people ever got on a bicycle and learned to ride straight away.

Step Two – When the curtain pulls back imagine or recall a scene in your life from a few days ago enacted on the stage/screen. Try to see this in as much detail as you can. Feel the emotions. When you have accomplished this, close the curtain and imagine yourself where you were at step one. Relax for a few moments and gather your thoughts.

Step Three – Imagine the curtain being pulled back again only this time try to imagine or recall something you experienced a few weeks ago, repeating step two in as much detail as possible. Do this a few more times going back further and further in your life as your imagination allows, even into your childhood if you can! When you find you cannot go back any further it is time to end your ’session’ for the moment. Give yourself some time, a few days if necessary, to digest what you’ve experienced, repeating the experiment until you find your balance. It’s now time to explore a ‘past life’.

Follow the instructions at Step One. As you await the curtain opening use your imagination to set the scene below. Once you’ve created your backdrop and the curtain opens to reveal your creation just relax and allow any characters to appear. You may not fully understand at the moment but any characters appearing on stage (or screen) are memories of you in another time, another place. Don’t direct the action; allow it to unfold in its own way. When the ‘play’ is over you should savor the moment and digest what you have ’seen’. After a few experiments you won’t need to use the guidelines given for you’ll find ideas welling up from within your own subconscious. Let me give you a few ‘pointers’ using your Astrological sign as a ‘tool’ for getting started, this will change as you change but for the moment use the techniques offered for your first attempts at exploring a ‘past life.’

For your first attempts picture the following:

Aries: Picture a circus.

Taurus: Set the scene of a dinner party.

Gemini: Picture yourself in a library:

Cancer: Create a lounge-room with a huge fireplace.

Leo: A beach resort, ice cool drinks, waiters.

Virgo: Imagine an Art Gallery.

Libra: A dance hall or disco.

Scorpio: Set the scene of an elaborate opera.

Sagittarius: Picture a woodland scene, a rainforest or bush setting.

Capricorn: Create the setting of an expensive restaurant.

Aquarius: Picture your scene in an office environment.

Pisces: Where else but in a hospital or institutional setting? Once you’ve set your scene and can picture it with all the details you’ll soon notice characters to appear, male and female old and young, good and bad.

When this happens sit back, relax and watch the ‘play’ unfold. In monitoring your emotions and identifying with certain characters you might find yourself directing them. When this happens you are experiencing a past life! At all times remember, you are in control, you are the director and no matter how the scene unfolds you can call ‘cut’ at any time and return to your daily activities. What I’ve written is designed to help you understand your very own unique nature, where you’ve been, where you’re going and who you are.

Since you are one of many who will read this it’s written for YOU but not you alone. By its very nature it will contain general remarks and sweeping statements. Don’t be turned off by this, look at it this way: In every forest there are thousands of trees of the same species yet, all individually different. Read and follow the simple techniques outlined above and I’m sure your intuition will be ‘triggered.’ Even though you and I belong to the human race and for the most part we are the same, nevertheless we are individuals in our own right. Playful meditation is a wonderful tool for escaping the humdrum of everyday existence and exploring your ‘past life or lives’ should give you some interesting insights into who you are NOW. To calculate your life path number you just need to convert the month to a single number or a master number (November stays 11 rather than 2).

Then convert the day of birth to a single digit or master number.

Next, add the total digits of year and reduce this sum to a single digit or master number. The individual digits representing the month, day, and year, be they single digits or master numbers, are then added together, as necessary to reduce the sum once again to a single digit 1 through 9, or to the numerology “master numbers,” 11 or 22.

Yoga is probably the only system that uses the physical body as a vehicle to reach the highest stage of spiritual consciousness. Yoga believes it is the spinal column that holds the secret path to knowledge and liberation. This is supposed to contain three nadis or channels called Ida, Pingala and Sushumna.

A chakra is believed to be an energy centre. There are seven chakras placed over the spinal column. These are subtle and cannot be seen through dissection. Yoga believes that the male and female parts o Cosmic Consciousness are present in every human being.

The female Cosmic Consciousness is called Kundalini or ‘serpentine power’, which is dormant in ordinary human beings and lies coiled at the base of the spinal column. The male part of Cosmic Consciousness is located at the crown chakra in ‘sahasrara’, which is at the top of the head.

More importantly, Reiki – a popular form of treatment practised all over the world – deals with therapy through Universal Life Force by supplying the same to chakras, which in turn are supposed to distribute it in the body.

Several other spiritual schools all over the world have also accepted the concept of chakras and believe that their purification can be achieved in various ways and once purified, meditation practices will help in spiritual progress.

While the physical body is connected to all the chakras and the defective chakras can induce disease as mentioned above, on the mental level also chakras have a remarkable influence and determine the behaviour, acceptance levels and the ay a person operates in society.

For example, when the root chakra is defective a person may suffer from physical ailments like improper evacuation, piles, fistula, constipation etc. The defective chakra also affects one at the mental level.

When the root chakra is defective, a person becomes aggressive and confused. His aggressive behaviour makes others keep away from him but the person himself is not aware that he is aggressive. When defective, the mental aspect of the sexual chakra results in mental withdrawal and creates phobias. The personality chakra – also called the solar plexus chakra – controls feelings of guilt and shame. When this chakra is defective, the person becomes over-anxious about himself and how society is reacting to him. He is cursed with greed and becomes envious. While taking any action he is always worried about how he is perceived by others and goes out of the way to impress others. Instead of living for himself, he tries to live for others.

The heart chakra interferes with the way a person reacts to people around him. Compassion, kindness, forgiveness and an attitude of give and take are all at the base of this chakra. When this is defective, it makes a person hateful and vengeful.

When the expression chakra or throat chakra is defective, it makes a person unreasonable. This type of person wants everyone to obey him unquestioningly. He becomes a hard taskmaster, but in the process loses the love and respect of others.

The knowledge chakra or ajna chakra is perhaps the most critical one. If this chakra is functioning properly, it will act as a divine guide in he sojourn of life. In 1975 NASA’s Mariner 10 spacecraft flew past Mercury at a distance of 327 km (203 miles). It carried equipment that measured the planet’s magnetic field. Nine years later, physicist Russell D. Humphreys predicted that by 1990 Mercury’s magnetic field should be 1.8 per cent weaker than in 1975.

No spacecraft was sent to Mercury in 1990. Now NASA’s Messenger space probe flew past the solar system’s innermost planet. Preliminary data on the magnetic field were published in July in Science. The results indicate that Humphreys was right – Mercury’s magnetic field is indeed considerably weaker than it was in 1975, by roughly 4 per cent.

Humphrey’s based his calculations on the biblical estimation of the solar system’s age (ca. 6000 years). “My predicted four percent decrease in only 33 years would be very hard for evolutionary theories of planetary magnetic fields to explain”, writes Dr. Humphreys on the Creation Ministries International webpage.

“When NASA’s space program began many decades ago, nobody expected it to vindicate Scripture so strongly, ” Humphreys concludes.

Other evidence also point to a young solar system. For instance, the methanological cycle on Saturn’s moon Titan is relatively young. The rain on Titan is liquid methane. Recently researchers at Johns Hopkins University in Laurel, Maryland examined the images sent by the Huygens space probe. They found out that there is much less tholin, a substance made up of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen, on Titan’s surface than predicted by a model in which the solar system’s age is estimated to be billions of years.

Another fascinating fact that speaks for a young solar system is the existence of short-term comets. Every time a comet passes the sun, it loses some of its mass and thus no short-term comet could last over 100, 000 years. Astronomers have speculated that a hypothetical stretch of space called the Oort Cloud that extends up to three light years from the sun houses millions of frozen comets. Every now and then these cold comets change to a shorter orbit that takes them closer to the sun. However, there is no observational evidence for the existence of this cloud. In other words, the Oort Cloud was invented because belief in an old solar system required it.

The weakening of Mercury’s magnetic field adds to this fascinating list of evidence for a young solar system.
